Summer children's transport: bicycles, scooters, roller skates, ponycycles

Transport plays a leading role in our lives; sometimes we cannot even think about how we would live without transport...

Yes, indeed, it is very difficult for us to imagine our life without transport: buses, trolleybuses, cars, trams, trains and planes.

The life of each of us becomes more convenient and easier thanks to transport, because cars are our friends - with their help we transport people and goods over long distances, we can build high-rise buildings, and travel anywhere in the world.

Let's talk about what types of transport exist, how they differ and touch on the history of their origin.

Children bicycle

This is a classic of the genre: as soon as the child “outgrows” the stroller, he switches to a bicycle. Depending on the age, physical fitness and temperament of the child, you can offer him different options: two-, three- and four-wheeled bicycles, with or without handles, with a sun visor, beepers that can not only disperse pedestrians, but also test mother’s patience, with a trunk that rarely fits anything significant, with footrests if they don’t yet reach the pedals. There are even models of bicycles for twins - two children can fit on the seat, and it’s up to them to decide who will pedal and steer.

No matter how you look at it, bicycles have a lot of advantages: they offer children age-appropriate physical activity, strengthen their leg muscles, and teach them to coordinate movements (after all, you have to pedal, steer, and plan maneuvers at the same time). A bicycle provides a child with a certain degree of freedom: this is not a stroller where you have to obediently sit and go where the mother decides. Models for kids are stable, safe, practical and attractive. Prices generally start from 2,000 rubles - depending on the manufacturer, quality, various accessories and additions. Bicycles have practically no disadvantages, which is why most parents buy this universal transport for their children. True, there are nuances:

  • Children usually master cycling no earlier than 3-4 years old - before that they lack coordination or leg strength.
  • The two-wheeled option is not safe until (with the help of an adult) the child learns to ride it.
  • Any model is unsafe if the child is a fan of high speeds and neglects the rules of the road.
  • If the child is tired and decides to become a pedestrian, then it is the mother who will have to carry the bicycle home (and many models have a decent weight - for reasons of the same safety).
  • Rolling a children's bike is quite inconvenient. However, in this aspect you can also find advantages, for example, strengthening the mother’s muscles.

Scooter

Many children prefer scooters to bicycles because, with the skills and riding practice, they are easier to handle than bicycles. There are two-, three- and four-wheeled scooter models, many equipped with beepers to scare away unwary pedestrians. For older children, you can find scooters with large diameter wheels - the speed increases, but skills, good reaction and coordination are required. Among the advantages of scooters are their maneuverability, lightness, and compactness (most fold up). If the child gets tired of riding, the mother can fold the scooter in half and carry it comfortably - still easier than dragging a bicycle. Prices for scooters start at 900 rubles.

The disadvantages include the fact that some children do not have the skills to ride a scooter - as a result, each “ride” leads to bruises and abrasions. Keeping track of a child on a scooter is also not easy - he chooses both the speed and direction (not always guided by common sense), so the mother will have to run a lot or scream loudly. This, of course, is a general observation and does not apply to all children. Another general observation: scooters are preferred by children who are temperamental, lively, active, and who find it difficult to sit still quietly.

How the train came to be

In ancient times, the role of transport was performed by pack animals: horses, camels, mules. With their help, people traveled, conquered new lands, and transported heavy loads. With the invention of the wheel, various carts, carts, chariots, and carriages appeared, but they could not move without assistance.

The first prototype of the modern train was trolleys that transported goods along wooden beams that served as rails. But heavy trolleys were still moved by horsepower.

To transport more cargo, at the end of the 18th century, trolleys began to be connected to each other with iron rings. This is how the first primitive compositions appeared. They were used to transport coal from mines to populated areas.

Rice. 1. Trolleys.

The situation changed in 1804, when engineer Richard Traithwick demonstrated his invention - the world's first steam locomotive. After a short time, several models of steam locomotives were produced, which were successfully used in the mines. However, their speed was very low - no more than 8 km/hour.

Children's gurneys (pushkars)

A wheelchair is a preparatory stage that almost every child goes through before getting on a bicycle. This is a plastic vehicle, made in the shape of anything (from a panda to a rocket), but the most common are gurney cars, because they are what children (including girls) like.

The advantage of the wheelchair is safety, the ability to be used by a small child (from 10-12 months), the presence of a backrest and sides, a pusher handle for mom, and many different beepers that a child can use to amuse themselves when they are tired of riding. Prices for gurneys start at 1,400 rubles. The disadvantage of gurneys is that their wheels are poorly absorbent (since they are most often made of plastic), so on the street with uneven asphalt, riding on them is, to put it mildly, inconvenient, although persistent children do not notice these inconveniences.

Roller skates for children

Figure skating experts say that you can put a child on skates (and their summer counterpart - roller skates) from the age of 3. The main argument is this: during this period, the child’s brain is tuned to hone the skills of fast walking, running, jumping and other motor experiments, and therefore is ready at the same time to master both gliding and balancing on skates or rollers.

And yet, roller skates are the summer transport of growing children. Most often, children ask to buy them skates at the age of 6-7 years, and at the same age they are psychologically ready to endure the inconveniences and falls associated with the learning process. There are few varieties of roller skates: most models have one row of wheels and are equipped with a brake. There are models with two rows of wheels - for young children. The advantage of rollers is that skating on them is a full-fledged physical activity that engages and strengthens almost all muscle groups and trains coordination of movements. In addition, roller skates help socialization: a child on roller skates becomes and feels “cooler” or “belongs” among his peers. Rollers mean freedom of choice, maneuverability, and fairly high speed. They are relatively compact (especially if you buy a special bag) and do not weigh much. The main disadvantage of rollers is the high level of injuries, especially at first. Prices for skates start at 900 rubles, but in their case the high price is justified, since more expensive models provide comfortable and relatively safe skating. There are also some nuances: for roller skates you need to buy “protection” for your elbows, knees, hands, and a helmet for your head. It only remains to add that Russian roads, including pedestrian sidewalks, unfortunately, increase the level of injuries during roller skating, and are simply very unnerving.

Types of transport

The classification of modes of transport is very multifaceted and differs in modes of movement, purpose and seasons of the year.

According to the method of movement - the most striking classification of transport is:

  • ground - when transport moves only on the ground or rails (car, trolleybus, bus, train, tram);
  • water – transport moves along a river or sea (boat, ship, motor ship);
  • air – transport flies through the air (helicopter, plane).

Every mode of transport was created for something. After all, in essence, these are workhorses and the following types of transport are distinguished by purpose:

  • passenger – transport that transports people, delivering them to the desired address (car, bus, plane, tram) 4
  • horse-drawn – for transporting cargo (cart, truck)
  • special - used in special professions (ambulance, fire truck, police car);
  • agricultural - used for harvesting crops, arable land (tractor, combine).
  • construction - a large number of machines and special equipment that helps in the construction of buildings and roads.

There are also types of transport that are used at certain times of the year.

  • winter - transport that is excellent for movement in the winter season (snowmobile, snowmobile, snowmobile).
  • summer - transport used in warm and hot weather of summer, spring and autumn (bicycle, motorcycle, ATV, scooter).

For each of us, transport is not a novelty, because we can easily find ourselves on the other side of the planet in just a few hours, thanks to the aviation mode of transport - the airplane. Was this always possible? Of course not, transport was not always at hand. Let's look through the pages of transport history...

Skateboards for children

This is the transport of older children – schoolchildren and teenagers. However, there are also models for kids: for example, a balance board that transforms from a scooter into a miniature skateboard. He gradually teaches the child the correct movements to control a skateboard.

A type of skateboard is a rollersurf (price from 2,300 rubles) - the same board on wheels, but divided in half and fastened with movable hinges. Obvious advantages of a skateboard: price (classic models from 600 rubles), compactness, light weight, high physical activity, which improves the child’s overall physical fitness.

Obvious disadvantages: traumatic, especially on uneven sections of the road. Roller surfing will require your child to be in better shape and coordination than riding a classic skateboard. If you have already decided to meet your child halfway and put him on a skateboard, teach him to skate: find a coach or training videos on the Internet, show him by example if you yourself have experience and skills.

Balance bikes (runners, balance bikes)

If your child is too small to steer and pedal at the same time, but the store insists on a “lisped,” then a balance bike is the optimal solution. These are the same bicycles, with a steering wheel and wheels (two, three or four), but without pedals. A child rolls on a balance bike, pushing off the ground with his feet. A child 2 years old and 90 cm tall can easily master a balance bike.

The main advantage of a balance bike (along with all the advantages of a regular bicycle) is its suitability for the child’s age. On it, your child will not develop crazy speed and will intuitively slow down in front of obstacles, using the means that are accessible and understandable to him - his own legs. However, many models are equipped with a hand brake. Among the disadvantages are a decent price (from 4,000 rubles) and very rapid “obsolescence”. A child will ride this model for no more than one season (or even less), and then he will want to switch to the “classic”. Some manufacturers, in an effort to extend the life of a balance bike, offer skis for it (from 2,200 rubles) - so this transport can be safely called year-round.

History of the invention of transport

There were times when a person could only walk and run with his own legs, but did not know how to ride. And there was no transport... Later, the man learned to ride a horse. People could move from one place to another, and most importantly, not on foot.

But a problem arose: how to transport things? There is a problem, a solution is found, and man found a solution: he invented the wheel, and with it the development of transport began, starting with the cart. A wheel is a special disk with spokes that rotates on an axle. The wheel was first invented in the East in the 4th millennium BC.

The Fixies tell a very interesting story about the history of the invention of the wheel:

The first wheel looked like a disk made of wood or stone. It was attached to a wooden platform and this is how the cart turned out. So they began to transport goods on it.

And after the wheel and cart, people learned to make various carts, chariots, and carriages, but they could not drive without outside help. The leading force was still animals - horses and dogs...

First steam engine

Soon the man thought of putting the boiler on wheels. This was the beginning of the appearance of the steam engine or steam car.

The first universal steam engine was patented in 1784 by the English inventor J. Watt. The main part of the steam engine is a cast-iron vertical cylinder in which there is a piston (a part that converts the energy of compressed gas into translational energy); the pressure difference in the right and left parts of the cylinder sets the piston in motion.

To increase the productivity of the machine, J. Watt used a special device - a condenser, a water-cooled vessel in which steam was condensed, that is, turned into water. The water from the condenser was then sent back to the boiler, creating a closed system.

By the beginning of the twentieth century, steam engines were improved to a power of 15 MW, reaching speeds of up to 1000 rpm.

Steam engines, despite their advantages, were bulky, heavy and uneconomical. But the most important thing is that the steam car marked the beginning of the emergence of transport that could move without outside help.

Pedal cars (velomobiles)

This is a hybrid of wheelchairs and bicycles. Children are attracted to it by its great resemblance to “adult” cars, but velomobiles are not very convenient to use: they are heavier than wheelchairs and less maneuverable than bicycles. Among the advantages are the load on the leg muscles and training the skill of “twisting” the pedals (whoever has transferred a child from a wheelchair to a bicycle understands how difficult it is to teach him to pedal without pauses). The disadvantage is the high price (from 6,200 rubles).

Key points to pay attention to when purchasing children's play vehicles

Safety

It is very important that the selected product is durable, reliable and non-hazardous. Make sure that the transport does not create additional stress on the baby’s knees and spine. The child needs to be comfortable. Nothing should cause you any fear.

Convenience for parents

When choosing children's transport, mothers and fathers should also remember about their own comfort, because they will have to take out and bring in the toy. A bicycle, scooter or electric car should not be heavy and easy to carry. Pay special attention to this, otherwise you will end up having to suffer with bulky transport.

Device functionality

You must understand exactly what your child needs: a simpler model or with various bells and whistles in the form of light and sound effects. In some cases, there is no urgent need for all the unique functions; the main thing is that the toy is reliable and lasts its intended period, and you will have to pay extra for additional options that cause a wow effect.

Baby-friendly design and comfort

The most important thing is the child’s emotions. You need to choose those models (by color, shape) that he likes. You probably know about your child’s preferences, so choosing the best option will not be difficult.

It is also important that the child can easily operate the vehicle.

It is best to “try” the vehicle on a child: can he reach the levers and pedals, is it comfortable for him to sit, stand, operate the toy, does he like this model. But if you are preparing a surprise, then carefully correlate the transport with the physical characteristics and tastes of the baby.

Electric cars, electric motorcycles

This summer vehicle is as similar as possible to an “adult” vehicle. As in a real car, the driver is only required to steer, press pedals and buttons and know the rules of the road. Advantage: safety (even from an electric motorcycle it is difficult to fall off), low speed (with the exception of rare, very powerful models). Disadvantages: they take up quite a lot of space, require regular recharging, are quite heavy and are expensive (from 6,500 rubles).

Ponycycles

What do manufacturers of children's goods do to stand out from competitors! An example of this is the ponycycle - a hybrid of a wheelchair and a rocking horse. By the way, this doesn’t have to be a horse; a ponycycle can be made in the shape of any animal (from a zebra to a cow).

The unusual vehicle is equipped with wheels and a special articulated-lever mechanism that imitates horse riding. You can “learn” horse riding from the age of 4. Prices start from 6900 rubles. The advantages include originality, no need for recharging, low speed (an adult can calmly walk alongside), and training of the musculoskeletal system. The disadvantages include the inconvenience of transportation (if the child is tired of the horse, then the mother will have to become a horse herself in order to bring the animal home), impracticality (the soft wool material catches dirt and dust well - although manufacturers claim that the animal’s skin can be removed and cleaned).

About 6 thousand years BC. e. The history of water transport for children begins. It was then that the first devices capable of moving on water appeared. These were rafts, clay boats, skin shuttles, etc. When it became necessary to increase the weight of the cargo being transported, their appearance began to change. They began to build in frames, plating, and add oars and poles to ancient ships.

The second half of the 19th century is considered the peak of the development of sea vessels. The massive opening of ports contributed to the fact that the first steamship was afloat . At first it worked on propellers, then in some models they were replaced by steam turbines and diesel engines. In 1899, an icebreaker was built and given the name “Ermak”. Four years later, a diesel-electric ship was invented.

But all maritime transport had one significant drawback - low speed. Many researchers worked on this, but the issue was resolved only in 1927.

Russian professor Levkov contributed to the appearance of the first boats capable of reaching speeds of up to 120 km per hour 10 years later. His idea was picked up in England. Soon the English ship crossed the English Channel in 40 minutes.

Roller shoes (Heelys)

These sneakers are similar to regular sneakers, but each has a wide wheel that allows you to roll, as if sliding, on a flat surface. These sneakers cost from 2000 rubles.

Advantages - they are original, attractive and can easily perform the function of ordinary sneakers, helping you move faster. Disadvantages: it takes skill and practice to roll and even walk in such sneakers; The surface must be perfectly flat, otherwise the skating will become extreme.
